Maybe I misunderstand something about uncapped.

how to get futurehood when telkom doesn't believe I have access to LTE at all

Hey Ladies and Gents

so I've been trying to get a large data package for a reasonable price in my neighbourhood, so obviously the 1st thing I tried was getting ADSL, but was initially regrettably informed that there is no infrastructure for ADSL where I live, to which I responded with sending an email from telkom back to them that they told me that there is infrastructure available for 10Mbps ADSL...

To which they then responded with, "the exchange is full, and we don't know when ports will become available"

as you can imagine I'm already quite frustrated at this point, so I decided, I'm going to get LTE instead, but the coverage map clearly states I have none of that either, so off I go to the Telkom store in a feeble attempt to persuade them to send a technician over to my house to see if I can in fact pick up an LTE signal as I know these coverage maps are not always accurate, and if so perhaps join one of their contracts. of course to no avail, speaking to customer service over the phone I was told that if I go to a shop they would be able to send a technician...

so failing that, I trawled through gumtree and picked up a B593s-601, went home, plugged it in, and voila 2 bars of LTE and 26Mbps download/2Mbps upload speed on my prepaid telkom SIM. so I was curious about whether or not I could get one of these futurehood uncapped deals, so I looked at that coverage map and realized that I miss the futurehood base stations by less than 2km in almost a full circle around me, and the map app tells me I can not apply... so I wonder if there is a representative here who can actually be of assistance, as I do in fact have LTE coverage, steady enough to VPN into the office all day

TL;DR;
long story short, can't get adsl in my hood
adsl story 1: no adsl coverage
adsl story 2: exchange is full in my area

coverage map says no LTE coverage at my house
bought B593, found LTE signal, need uncapped
would like to get a futurehood uncapped LTE, the other base stations around me are almost completely unoccupied with less than 6 uncapped LTE users on each, can I not just be connected to one of those as I am so close to those base stations... how do I get connected to one of these base stations

hoping for a happy ending ;) ... so to speak :D

Is Telkom supplied Huawei router Telkom locked

Hi there.

I just run out of data on my Telkom suppllied Huawei router. I have a portable router I bought from Axxess and it has an Axxess sim card on which I still have almost 4GB. Well, I have a lot of data left on Axxess and put in the Axxess card in the Telkom router. It has signal but stays disconnected. This will be very disappointing if it is Telkom locked.

Can you please confirm or help with a workaround?

Thanx, Deon

Apple iPhone FaceTime Activation on Telkom Mobile

Please help. Just ported three MTN numbers to Telkom. Some struggles but now working. Except we've lost Apple FaceTime/iMessage facility now on all three iPhones (2 5s and 1 5). Hitting the FaceTime activation gets it trying but never actually connecting. It would seem to be a Telkom setting problem. Several visits to the Telkom Store have not solved it. Anybody knows what to do?

[Question] Does anyone know the range of IP's that Telkom Mobile uses?

I'm monitoring a website I have recently added to Google analytics, but the problem I'm having is that whenever I visit the site, it shows up on analytics. I use telkom LTE to access the net, but since the IP is dynamic, blocking it from analytics would be pointless. Does anyone know what the full range of IP's that is used for Telkom Mobile, so that I can block it in Google Analytics?

[EDIT] The site demographic is based in other countries, so I don't mind blocking a subset of SA IP addresses.

Thank you!

Data Wars: Uncapped Internet

A long time ago in a suburb far far away ....

Episode IV: A New Home
So I just bought a new house, and needed a data/voice line in the new place. So in December, about 3 weeks before I move, I visit the Telkom website and filled out a form requesting a line move.
Come move day on January, I go to the local Telkom store to check how far my process is. Well, they find no record of filling out any forms and they never processed it.
Furiously I fill out a new form to hurry it along.
Next day I check up (just to confirm), and they say it fill take a few months due to no ports available. So I start looking for alternatives....

Episode V: Telkom Strikes Back
So I hear of the new uncapped R599 LTE deal. I check online, and I am 200m away from the tower with clear line of sight. Wookie-roar! I fill out the online form, and strangely enough after 2 days a lady calls. We go through the security check, application, etc. She says it will be at my place in 5 working days. I hang up, thinking all is done. 10min later she calls: You have an outstanding balance. Yes I say, you sent me the bill 2 days before and I haven't gotten round to it yet, but I will pay it while she is holding. No, I cannot do that, it takes 24 hours to reflect. But do not worry, your application will automatically be processed.

Episode VI: Return to the phones
A few days later I call to follow up. A Roberto gets my call. No there is no record of my application. He doesn't know where it went. But we can do the application again. Nooooo. So I start on the credit check. His computer crashes. He cannot continue. But he promises to call me back...

Episode I: The Telkom Menace
A few days later with still nothing, I decide to call again. Luckily I get Roberto again. I think he must handle the "annoyed" customers. He doesn't remember me. He doesn't remember taking my cell number. He doesn't remember his computer crashing. I suspect Jedi Mind tricks. But he will see check up on my order. He says they cannot continue since they must do a credit check, and so he takes my bank account details.

Episode II: Attack of the Phone Drones
I call again. Not Roberto. Thank Palpatine. This time they semi know me. The guys sees that they cannot get a credit check done on me. He doesn't know why. (My suspicion is that since Roberto never completed the security checks, the credit company just rejected the application.) He ask that I update my details with the credit company and then they will try again. Now got my credit details from the company, seems I am a 1 on their scale. Basically perfect. So if I can get all the info, I wonder how they cannot get my details. Anyway, company contacted. We'll see if I can somehow update my details.

Can anyone advise what happens to my subscription post 24th month. Does the device fee fall away and I just pay the package subscription?

Telkom FLLA advice needed

Some friends applied for a landline and ADSL in a complex and were told that there's no infrastructure available although some other people a few houses down have both.

They have been offered a FLLA option instead with a data plan of R199/m for 10GB data. The problem is their complex
is in an area that shows no real coverage on the website of the Telkom network, coverage starts only a few blocks away. The Telkom system shows moderate reception at the address but will not guarantee that they will be able to utilise the data at a decent speed.

Will this data that could be included only work on the Telkom network or also on the roaming network (great MTN and Vodacom coverage in the area) or would you suggest they only take the phone line option and get mobile data via other options instead?

Thank you

Connection issues

Hi there,

Even though I mostly have 4 bars and can often download at around 20M my connection is really poor. When opening pages they often show no connection or page not available. Today for instance, downloads are constantly stopping and restarting and many pages have to be refreshed multiple times before showing.

Any idea how to approach Telkom with this issue as past experience tells me I'll just be given the run around?

Telkom Mobile: connects to the network, but not to the net

Have been having this issue since last week. Modem (DWM-156) connects perfectly to the network every time, but Windows reports that there is no internet access.

Today, I connected, and it was up for less than a minute, then went down. Connected again with a console open, and pinged Google; all fine. Then repeated the same command immediately after and got a request timeout. And then again, "unable to find server". Wash, rinse, repeat.

I assume it's the tower that provides coverage to my area - it's broadcasting a good signal, but not connecting to the net. Support escalated my enquiry to the technical departmet last week Thursday, and they haven't gotten back to me (not sure if marking something as "urgent" even helps, these days). What's even worse is that Support isn't able to tell me what's wrong, or what could be wrong. They're given a set of instructions to guide customers in troubleshooting, and nothing more. They would be unable to tell you if a particular coverage area was having difficulties. And, they can't put me through to technical? Huh?

So hanging on for technical now (hope this doesn't take too long), and using Vodascum (and by scum, I mean expensive) in the meantime.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

ADSL Speed and Coverage Map

$

When I applied for my ADSL, I was duly informed that I am only eligible for 2mbps service based on my address. I took it although I knew it would be painfully slow. I also have the Uncapped LTE but with my 2 bars of signal find it somewhat unreliable.

Looking at the coverage map, if I select my address it says 10mbps. If I select any of my neighbors or my "second address" (I have a double stand and also two house numbers) it also says 10mbps.

Could it be that a faster service is available for ADSL but the coverage map just has some weird bug in it? Is there anyway I could check?

Did Telkom remove the midnight surfer from your package. I cant recall seeing it was temporally?
It was added.

No Night Surfer data showing on LTE contract this month?

Does anyone else have this problem? When I check my available data balance on the Telkom mobile website I only see my normal data bundle and no Night Surfer like I normally see. Wondering whether they have done away with the night surfer or if it is just my bundle that has a problem?

SIM-only data packages with PAYG airtime

My 24 month contract has just come to an end, and I want to keep my device & number and move to a month-to-month or PAYG option.

Is it possible to get the SIM-only data bundle, of say, 5GB for R199 (SmartInternet - 5GB) month-to-month and then just load minutes on a PAYG basis as I need them on the SIM card? The lady at the Telkom store was quite convinced that this is not possible and that it's a data offering only.

LTE Antenna - show us your install

I have been trying to help a fellow member with poor throughput following an Antenna install by Telkom through their uncapped LTE promo.

I am under the opinion that they tilted the antenna too much and didn't raise it high enough to clear obstacles on the ground. This possibly "poor install" is resulting in poor speed and connection issues.

You guys don't mind posting your installs so we can compare and maybe find a correlation between the quality of an install and the speed throughput ?

Great to see what others have to say about their installs.

So for example this is my install:

Antenna: XPOL-6
Speed: 61Mbps

Installed DIY by myself.

Port forwarding and DDNS on B315s-936

I have been on the Telkom uncapped LTE deal now for about a month, and so far I have been very happy with my speeds.
I pointed the antenna in the direction I believed the mast to be, and it seems to be about the best I can get.
DL : 35Mbps (I get about 2-2.2MBps)
UP : 5-7Mbps
Ping : 40-50ms
Distance to mast : 1.5km with trees in the way

But I digress...!

The router I received is the B315s-936 variant. Previously I was on an ADSL 4 meg line with an NVR attached, and the router allowed me to set up DDNS using No-IP to view my cameras at home. However, shortly before going onto the LTE deal, some lightning took out the ADSL port on the router (the wifi/Ethernet side of it still worked fine).
Now with this new router (the B315), I can't choose any other provider except DynDNS on the drop-down in DDNS setup. Unfortunately the difference between DynDNS and No-Ip is one is free, the other is about $40 per annum.

Another option would be to port forward, but I can't find this functionality in the setting either!

Can someone possibly help me? First (easiest) option would be how to add No-Ip to the drop down, the second would be how to port forward.

Thank you.

Degrading Telkom LTE Uncapped speeds

I've been using Telkom Uncapped LTE for about a month now and I've been pretty impressed with the speeds that I have been getting.

However for the past 3 nights (1 - 3 February) the speeds have been dropping from an average of 30mbps during the day, to 2mbps between 7pm to 10pm.

Plenty of users have complained about this exact issue and nobody has said a word.

Could either of the Telkom reps please chime in here and let us know what is going on.
