I have Telkom uncapped LTE for R599 a month on a 24 month contract since 08/02/2016, getting insane speeds (average 40-90mbps download) and used about 300-500gb for the month of February (my first month with this product) without being throttled, for instance yesterday I downloaded World of Warcraft, Hearthstone via the battle.net desktop application, Battlefield 3 and 4, Need for Speed Most Wanted via Origin application and Smite, Planet Side 2 and CoD Ghosts via Steam all together it was about 90gb of downloads in about 4 hours and afterwards I played online with no issues watched some youtube 1080p and 4k without any buffering etc.

Average ping in-game (CsGo & Dota 2) is about 40-120ms depending on how busy the network is after 10-12pm it stays at about 40ms. Time when I usually get pings between 80-160ms is on Fridays 6pm-10pm but it not every Friday though.

Can't be anymore happier with what I got, was a little bit concerned at first when I read all the reviews and what peoples thoughts on it was without actually testing or owning the actual product. You will only get throttled to 128kpbs if you exceed 50gb of peer 2 peer transferring (i.e torrent downloads) and when your throttled it will only be for peer 2 peer transferring as for anything else like Steam, Youtube, Twitch, Browsing the internet, Origin, Battle.net, Google Play Store, Pornhub :whistle: etc. is uncapped and will always run at full speed.

:) Hope this will help some people on deciding which wireless deal is best for them. I have mounted the signal booster on the burglar proofing myself with cable ties and have full 4G signal I guess I am just lucky, the tower is about 200-300 meters from my apartment and I am on the ground floor there is only single story houses and trees between my apartment and the tower. Since I have full signal and now problems for the past 3 weeks I am not even gonna bother getting a technician out to install it outside on the roof, I'm scared I will have problems when the weather conditions change and it starts swaying in the wind for now everything runs great even if there is bad weather.

Only downside for me is the 24 month contract because I don't earn a big salary and if my financial situation suddenly turns for the worst I might be screwed, but that's just me. Last thing the first 50 customers in your area that applies for the deal will pay R599 a month and if your customer 51-100 in your area it will be R699 and there after customer 101-150 it will be R799 a month.

They only allow 150 connections per tower so make sure you go check out how many have been sold for your area Click here and enter your address to see how many connections is left and what you will be paying if you apply now.

I find that the 315 does not give me the same range as my original dlink ADSL router. Besides connecting another router, is there a Telkom LTE compatible hotshot router that I could use instead?

Hi,

I've moved back to SA and for the next week am in the Pine Lake, Whiteriver area, when I got here yesterday I realised I have no service provider coverage and have to use data roaming :wtf:. Does anyone know if Telkom covers this area and if not does anyone know how much national data roaming costs are so I have an idea of how much this is going to set me back while I'm out here.

Telkom LTE Port Forwarding for CCTV

Hi All,

I have the Telkom LTE Uncapped deal with the Huawei B351s (from the bottom of the device).
I also have a new Hikvision CCTV system.

I have setup the Hikvision DVR as a fixed IP which I can see over my network (from the PC and mobile phone).
However, I'm trying to figure out how to do the setup to allow me to check the CCTV remotely.

I setup the Port Forwarding option on the router (Security->Virtual Server) but this doesn't work.

I've done a port scan on my public IP and it says everything is blocked. Before I moved to the LTE I had setup a webserver I was able to view remotely using No-IP DDNS. This no longer works either.

Anyone with any knowledge of how to get this working?

Telkom LTE options - coverage issues

Hi All,

I've been using the 10GB+10GB 8ta package for a few years in CPT. Just moved to a new place in JHB south. The Telkom coverage map shows that I should have LTE coverage.

I am either getting no signal or just one bar which disconnects very shortly after it connects. I managed to get on to one webpage earlier before it disconnected.

My modem is the Huawei B593 LTE router. I tested the 8ta sim in a 3G modem and it works fine with 3G. I thought that the router can also pick up 3G if LTE is not available? I would prefer LTE though as I use it for gaming.

So I think my options are:

- Get an external LTE antenna. Don't know if this will help much. I can't put an antenna on the roof as I live in an estate so it has to be an "indoor" external antenna.

- Get the B593 router to pick up 3G and just use 3G.

- Store away the B593 and just us a USB 3G modem. Currently using a CellC modem with the 8ta sim. Think it has 7.2mbps max download speed.

- Jerry rig the B593 router to the built-in TV antenna in my apartment. Trying to read more about this online. Doubt external TV antenna can pick up the LTE signal.


Any advice/suggestions?

Help Setup B315 with TPlink for DVR Viewing

Hi all
Please help me here trying to connect to my DVR externally

On the B315 I have switched DHCP off and enables DMZ to 192.168.8.2 as per below

I have then created the virtual server and port forwarding as below

DNYDNS on TPLink is updating the IP and the DVR has a fixed IP.

I can connect to DVR on local network but cannot connect from externally
If I enable DMZ on the TPlink I can connect to DVR from outside but cannot get video feed it shows connect but no video image.

So from my limited understand I have a problem with my port forwarding ?

Assistance is much appreciated

Pathetic service while doing application for Uncapped Wireless

I did an application for wireless broadband uncapped on the 27th of Jan on their website. Got the call on 4th of Feb at 11:25AM to complete my application. Everything was completed and I was told that I would receive my equipment within the next 3 day and that the installation would be done within 10 working days.

I had waited patiently all this time for the equipment since I wasn't in a rush for it. I finally called yesterday, 1st of March, since I still hadn't received anything, to find out what was taking so long only to hear that there was no order listed according to my ID number on my account for the offer. Went through many phone calls to 10210 after that, getting put through to different sections and being hung up trying to find out why but could never get a clear response.

Yesterday afternoon I Posted on their Facebook page and they asked for my info and that someone would contact me to help me figure out what the problem was. I just got off the phone with the person 30 mins ago and the reason he said was that the application was declined due to affordability but I can go to a Telkom store and apply again.

That is absolute rubbish because I know I can easily afford R599/month, I mean how can it not be affordable if I will be paying less with the new setup compared to the 4Mbps Uncapped ADSL I am currently paying for to them. That makes no sense at all. The application was approved when I was on the call on the 4th and I was told the equipment will arrive in 3 days.

I think someone at Telkom messed up the paper work and now they are making an excuse as to why the order is suddenly gone. This is absolutely atrocious service, how can they say everything is done and accepted and the equipment is on the way and now suddenly come back and say it wasn't accepted because of affordability. What kind of people are working there that this happens?

I wish I could get a hold of the original phone call when the woman approved my application and I would post that as well for everyone to listen to. Worst service ever.

I'm looking to sign up for the Uncapped LTE promotion that Telkom has on offer.

Problem is according to the coverage map I fall right on the edge of reach of the tower.

How can I go about testing if I will have reception before signing up? I have a SmartBroadband Wireless 10GB contract with them, but no way of telling if I'm connected to LTE or not?

Now I've been battling with Telkom complaining about internet speeds during 17h00 and 23h00 thats just been getting slower and slower and well months later I'm still waiting for help, with zero response from Telkom my last complaint have been unattended for 4 weeks now and network is dropping almost each night non stop.

Now I'm just wondering are there any other users out there experiencing the same problem of speeds completely degrading during those hours.

Kinda hectic paying 2k a month and I can't even do online gaming cause I get disconnected but I thought it might have been a tower problem and now after reading some threads on the forum I'm starting to think it's just Telkom being unable to manage a decent quality of network service, which means or indicates to me I can go ahead with my complain to ICASA and then get out of these dam Telkom contracts and move elsewhere, Vodacom is just killing me with there dam data prices wish they would wake up and get there data prices in line with Telkoms data deals, cause that about the only hold Telkom have over certain clients is price.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question has anybody signed up for the 24 Month contract with Telkom where you get a Huawei B315 Router?
The reason I'm asking is does this Router support port forwarding? I have cameras at home that I normally check on my Mobile, because my Tenda Router has port forwarding and I don't want to go for this package if I wont be able to do port forwarding on it.

Any comments will be helpful

Telkom LTE+ Cancelation as bad as the service

I had issues from the time i had LTE+ installed. the service was non consistent and for spending R1399 a month I would expect it to be stable. After logging a ticket (16916753) and the techicians confirming my problems it was never resolved. I called in January again and said i need to cancel. a new ticket was logged (17378917) I also sent the cancellation email with the necessary form and got a read receipt. THere after numerous calls confirmed someone would contact me.

In all the time i was pretty damn patient with the service i was getting. It was logged that cancellation be done without costs as the issue resides with Tekom. In the last phone call on the 15th of January it was said "oh they are busy with system upgrades" So i said "for 6 months????"....

SO far NO ONE has contacted me and it is the 7th of March and i have disconnected and turned off the system so that it cannot be used. I have already installed a new service from a different Wireless ISP and using it.

Shoud any further costs be deducted from me I will reverse and approach legal councel and they will deal with it with costs for Telkom's account.

Uncapped LTE - on the edge?

I'm trying ti sign up or the Uncapped LTE service from Telkom.

Attached in the coverage map. I'm right on the edge, but tested it with a B593 LTE modem and Telkom LTE sim and reception works perfect.

Telkom agent contact me this morning, and they cannot offer me the service as I fall outside the coverage area. According to the agent, the uncapped LTE and normal LTE (which I tested) are not from the same base station.

So I proposed using the address opposite the road which falls in the indicated area, to which I was told that I already have a Telkom account with my address registered outside the area, plus the call is recorded and I already confirmed my address.

Any advise from here? I though about getting a local technician to confirm the test and reception, but how to get hold of one again proposes and issue.
