Lte Device Mystery- Solved

So I signed up for Lte Uncapped.
And got my Lte device delivered a huawei E5186. I couldn't get anything faster than around 4 mbs. When my workmates is getting 40. He lives a block away sure i understand wireless communications is tricky but still. check with telkom report problem... of course nothing happens.

Anyway my workmate got the B816 or something. I got his bunny ears and tried them. The E5186 not having and paddle antennas of its own. No better speeds. I went to telkom bought two exteranal omni directional anttna and mounted them on my roof over the weekend.

Signal strength improved by 5 or 6 mDb. Speeds did not. Strange.

Get a call from some woman yesterday asking where my lte sim is. Ask me to log on to telkom with sim activation.

Hay look at that it's not my sim number.

I asked telkom the day I got the lte modem why I didn't get the b815 even gave them my imie number and all.

So after 40 min on the phone with telkom yesterday. They sending me my router and collecting this one.

So the big question is. My speeds should improve once I use the correct device in the correct area right? Well future speed tests incoming.... 😊

I know this probably isn't the correct section of the forum, but I sent my friend to the shop to purchase Telkom Mobile airtime. The shopkeeper gave him Telkom landline airtime instead -_-
I have no use for it. Would anybody like it?

Huawei B315s External Antenna or switch to Cell C?

So i recently got this router from Telkom but haven't been able to get more than 2 bars and around 2mb/s.

I am on the edge of the coverage provided in my area. I'm thinking about getting a external antenna to improve reception and speed. Can anyone recommend a place i could get a antenna in Cape Town?

I've also checked Cell C coverage and it seems to better in my area. Does anyone have any experience using Cell C? I've used them before and my connection would drop quite often.

Morning

I had some bad experience on my LTE Network on Saturday. (14:00)

Was running 4G, then in game lost connection.
Rebooted PC found no-network at all.
Rebooted PC again this time 3G only.

Started watching Series. Then network came back only 2 bars signal.

This then progressed to full 5 bars in a course of one hour. :confused:

What is happening Telkom.

Telkom not bothered with customer care...

I took out a 10GB + 10GB 24 month LTE Mobile contract with Telkom for R329 p/m. After a couple of months, I received a call from Telkom (on 8 Aug 2016) asking if I would like to migrate to the 20GB + 20GB contract for only R399 p/m. I accepted this offer, and the lady on the other side explained that the call was recorded and it's now a binding contract, which I'm happy with...

So a month later, my migration has not been activated. I phoned Telkom and the customer service agent made a commitment that they will return my call with an answer... This did not happen. Another month goes by and my migration is STILL not activated....

Again I phone Telkom to try and resolve the issue... Telkom now knows of nothing regarding my migration and puts me through to sales where they can (again) process my migration, but now the R399 p/m offer does not exist anymore. I'm not happy with this and nothing gets resolved... I thought I might get some more attention if I complain on Hellopeter.com but even this did not bear any fruit... I received one call from Telkom where they acknowledge my Hello Peter complaint and again promised to call me back with answers... Nothing happened. Telkom does not have any record of my 8 Aug 2016 migration, nor have they any recorded telephone calls...

But then I remembered, all my cell phone calls get recorded using an installed app on my phone... I tried to make contact with Telkom but can't seem to get hold of anybody willing to help... I even tried a second Hello Peter complaint, hoping that they will call me again, so that I can present my evidence of the migration on 8 Aug 2016. The new Hello Peter complaint they just ignored. I made several comments on my first Hello Peter complaint asking them to please give me a call... There's no point in me calling Telkom, as the normal customer care hotline cannot resolve my issue... They ignored this as well, and they just refuse to call me back.

So I tried the Telkom Facebook page... I posted a short message about the poor service I received and then it happened... A private message from the Telkom Facebook page, asking for more details... This excitement was short lived, as the "help" received from the FB page is even worse than the help received from the customer call centre...

I have requested numerous times to be contacted by Telkom and they just refuse to give me a call. I explained that I am in possession of a recording, the VERY clearly states the terms of my migration on 8 Aug 2016. After asking numerous times for an email address to send the recording, they actually supplied me with an email address. I mailed the recording and again nothing happens. After a day or so I asked them about the recording, and received a response that they did not receive it as their server’s blocks attached media... So I asked them to sort it out, and to provide me with a private email address if they have to... but they need to listen to this recording.

I mailed the recording and again nothing... EVERY TIME I have to contact Telkom to ask what is going on... They just don't bother to come back to me...

Again, after a day or so I asked Telkom (all this via the Facebook chat) what is going on... Then they asked me for details regarding the recording, as they cannot listen to the recording... Something about the file format... Now this I don't believe as the standard Windows media player has no issue playing this file... And are you telling me that the biggest TELECOMMUNICATIONS Company in South Africa can't even play back a recorder telephone conversation? Are you guys THAT incompetent?? I can't believe this...

Through all these conversations, I keep on asking them for a senior person to please give me a call... They just refuse... I get no feedback, I stopped writing down reference numbers as these does not seem to make a difference... Every time I need to explain my side of the story over and over and over again...

And all this time, it looks like Telkom tries to ignore me, hoping for the problem to go away...

I'm now at a point where I don't know what to do next... I'm actually thinking of dropping my router off at the nearest Telkom store and just cancel my debit order...
I can't take the fact that they just ignore me, even though I have a recording that clearly shows the fault on their side...

Hi guys.

I have been a vodacom customer for 10 years. After much deliberation, I am thinking of switching to Telkom due to their ridiculous deals and the fact that vodacom are so exorbitantly expensive. And their prices do not reflect their service.

My question to you is, do any of you have a Telkom sim? How is the network coverage and speed. Particularly in Joburg Pretoria and Cape Town?

Anybody aware of any Telkom mobile downtime? My Telkom LTE modem and two Telkom Mobile lines wouldn't connect. Sunnyside/Arcadia area in Pretoria CBD. Everything seems OK now.

Battery life using Telkom Mobile SIM poor

Hi,

We've noticed that battery life in a few devices seems to be significantly shorter using a Telkom Mobile SIM. Tried it in an iPhone5, iPhone5s, iPhone6, iPhone6s and Samsung S4.

Using Vodacom/MTN sims, the battery life seems to be pretty standard. However, switching to the Telkom SIM the battery life is horrible, and on the iPhones hardly last a full day on standby only, whilst with the other networks they go 2-3 days.

Setting the iPhones to not connect via LTE on Telkom seems to get a little bit longer battery life, but still significantly shorter than with Vodacom and MTN.

The Samsung only has a setting for GSM or WCDMA when on Telkom, with GSM mode giving Edge connections and not increasing battery life much.

The LTE signal at home is about 3 bars, so I guess that could impact on the battery. Also, I notice when setting LTE that the iPhones warns that Telkom is yet LTE certified for the devices. Is that why they perform so poorly?

I can't seem to call telkom using the landline and my router internet symbol is blank, anyone else experiencing these issues, its amazing how I just got this line and they didn't say anything about any sort of outage.

How to check LTE "uncapped" monthly usage stats??

On the Telkom "unlimited" LTE package for R799 (Now 300gb capped)

Does anyone know how to check monthly usage stats so I can see that I don't cross the newly imposed limit? A ussd code to dial from the router perhaps or where to view this on the pretty much useless mytelkom site? I know that the huawei b315 show statistics for current months usage under http://192.168.8.1/html/statistic.html. This is not what I am looking for.


Getting really slow speeds and constant disconnects.

Hi there...i'm a prepaid user and i uses more data to download games on xbox one,so i was suggesting that u bring along uncapped data on prepaid users,as some of us we can't afford contract.

Still struggling to buy data bundles today. Network seems okay though.

Must say that, while Telkom's product offerings are pretty good, their ability to inform customers about mobile data network problems via social media is still in the dark ages.

LTE router drops to 3G

Hi there guys.

Our LTE modem drops from 4G down to 3G in the early hours of the morning and sometimes in the day. Is this realted to the Telkom Mobile down time? Has anyone else experienced this? Getting an answer out of Telkom is like pulling teeth. It used to happen now and again but now its happening every night in the early hours of the morning.

SOmetimes a reboot will fix it but then it just goes down again.

Any advice?
