Sim Card for Telkom

Hi there guys,

I wonder if you can assist please? Is it at all possible to receive from Telkom (If anybody would know), a sim card to use in a router if I have uncapped ADSL at home? This sim card would be linked to my uncapped line, so I don't pay two subscriptions.

I travel a lot and don't really make use of my home ADSL.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi again

Regarding the LTE Uncapped offering from Telkom, I have seen on other threads that this is throttled with P2P and bittorrrent correct?

Tell me, what about streaming services? Like Netflix etc? Is this also throttled or shaped?

Anyone know how to set Telkom SIMs to USE out of bundle forever?

It used to be that you could go to a particular URL and it would ask you to confirm; however that seems to have gone and now SIM's only use Out of Bundle for one month

Area outtage affecting LTE ?

Today the land lines in our area and 2 neighboring towns have somehow gone down. So while this obviously means that there's no ADSL or telephone lines it is somehow affecting my LTE as well.

I came home from work and noticed that my Huawei router was displaying a red LED with no signal bars. So I logged in using the E5186 Toolbox and changed from 2300MHz to 1800Mhz.

That seems to work and I have internet connectivity, but it's painfully slow. Switching back to 2300Mhz takes me back to a no signal situation.

Could the area wide line outage be affecting my 2300Mhz connection somehow?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi

I got my LTE sim card today from Telkom but didn't buy the router. Thought I sommer use the sim in my cell phone. I've checked the coverage map and I am covered.

When I use my Vodacom and CellC sim in the phone, I get 4G, but as soon as I switch it with the Telkom one, it goes to H+ and I only get between 3 and 5mbs on a speedtest. Not sure what that means really... Do I have to use the Huawei router Telkom advertise with these LTE packages? Thanks!

I don't know how VOIP works but I think you plug a wireless handset into your Telkom Fibre router and make calls? If I'm right, does Telkom have something like this?

PPTP VPN - Incomming connection using Telkom LTE - Port 1723 Blocked?

I am unable to establish an incoming PPTP VPN connection to a site that is connected with a TELKOM LTE sim using a B315.

All port forwards and firewall rules are set up correctly. I connect to several other services (HTTP / IP Cameras / TFS / SQL Server) without any issues.

A check on http://www.canyouseeme.org/ reveals that port 1723 is inaccessible. This scenario is present at three different sites.

The VPN was working fine until the LTE downtime was experiences around the 10th of January 2017. We have been unable to establish a VPN connection since this time.

Has anyone managed to successfully connect to a VPN network hosted on a TELKOM TLE Sim?

Hi, read online somewhere recently that after an uproar over Telkom capping their uncapped LTE packages, they were offering to release customers from their contracts. I am unfortunately am one of those who cannot get away with 300 gig a month and probably require about 800 gig a month. does anyone know the cancellation procedure or who to call without spending the day on hold

I am having some DNS/Name Resolution trouble this morning. I have done a DNS Flush and have restarted the router several times. Can somebody maybe tell me what else i can do? Maybe someone from Telkom?

Telkom LTE nightsurfer not working suddenly

I've had Telkom LTE 50GB+50GB for around 18 months now. I've got a pretty fixed routine where I download updates and new games during Nightsurfer hours, as well as movies and series. The other data is used for day-to-day stuff such as social media and lots of Netflix.

I never have a problem having data left over come end of the month.

During January, I bought Doom on a Humble Bundle special. It's a 66GB download, so I had to spread it over 2 months to download. I used up all of my midnight surfer during January and still required to download another 28GB of the game come February.

On the evening of 31 Jan, I had only 1.5GB of anytime data left, and no Nightsurfer. I left my PC on so that once midnight hits, I'd have another 50GB+50GB.

Telkom's LTE is from 0h00 to 07h00. I wake up around 6am every day, and on 1 Feb I woke up, saw the download was completed and switched my PC off.

On 9 Feb, I patched my windows 10 during the morning, which was almost a 7 GB download.

On 10 Feb during the evening, my internet goes off. I go to bed, thinking it's Telkom being idiots again, and the next morning it's still off. I log into my Telkom account page, which was the only thing working, and see that my anytime data is finished, but my nightsurfer is completely unused.

Now I need to argue with the completely incompetent morons who man customer support. Do you know what this idiot tells me? "You did not disconnect". Now wtf does that mean? It means nothing. It means this idiot doesn't know anything about the products they sell.

I've used my LTE for 18 months, and only once before had this issue, coincidentally back in January 2016. Aside from that, the system should automatically switch between using Nightsurfer and Anytime data, depending on the time of day.

Am I wrong? Anyone had this before? I am livid having to deal with these incompetent idiots who seem to think they know so much.

I've reported the problem on Saturday morning, and at the time of writing they have still not investigated the issue.

None of the online guides van get me to use the 10GB on my laptop instead of the tablet.

How do I set it up on the laptop?

I'm currently using Vodacom and my contract is ending soon and I can already upgrade but I feel Vodacom is ripping me off currently. I've taken a look at Telkoms Freeme deals and they look like they are good value for money.

For those of you that are currently using Telkom Mobile in your daily cellphone (Jhb), how is the experience for you? Would you recommend moving over? I'm currently looking at the Freeme package for R149 with 2GB data. Don't need more than that as I have decent wifi at work and home.

Change free wifi data after recharging airtime to free mobile data.

Telkom please just change your style of giving us free wifi bundles after recharging airtime,Knowing that we don't use.Why don't you just give us mobile data,cause at the end we spend twice just travelling to the mall where there is telkom wifi hotspot just to use it.Stop playing games,just come with the best solution about this.

My 5 Bar signal has gone down to 3 Bar? Using external antenna not paddle sticks. :confused:

My numbers:
RSSI -64
RSRP 92
RSRQ -8

If I subtracted RSSI-RSRP should be 25 or lower. Not anymore.

RSRQ used to be -6 I can see something is terrible wrong.

I saw a Advert For Uncapped LTE. I subscribed did Telkom move me over. But response from Telkom was Tower fully booked. Need to phone in the morning to find out what happened?
